The Basso family has been producing high quality wine since 1922, and in 1997 they acquired and remodeled a small winery in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina which they named “Viña Amalia”.
The total capacity of the winery is 750.000 liters in stainless tanks and in concrete tanks and aged in French and American oak barrels.
The family owned two Vineyards: “Finca La Amalia” and “Los Montes Negros” located 1050 meters above sea level at the foot of the Andes. There we obtain the best wine due to the dry climate with cold winters and mild summers and a favorable fluctuation between night and day, Light sandy soil. Standard vertical trellis system, furrow irrigation filled with underground water extracted from 180 meters below the surface.
There are several wonderful red and white wines available.
The red wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Dos Fincas Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot and Dos Fincas Cabernet Sauvignon-Malbec.
The white varieties include: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a Late Harvest Wine.
The editors at Wine Enthusiast, one of the world’s most respected and quoted publications in the field of wine, have rated and reviewed with over 90 points, 3 of our wines in the in the buying guide of the December 2006 issue: Carlos Basso Malbec 2004, Carlos Basso Dos Fincas Cabernet Sauvignon-Malbec 2004 and Carlos Basso Dos Fincas Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot 2004.
This last one, was voted by the Wine Enthusiast Magazine in 6th place among the TOP 100 Best Buys of 2006, out of the nearly 10,000 wines the experts of Wine Enthusiast Magazine tasted this year and was the cover of the Best Buy Guide because of having been the wine with the highest punctuation in that December Edition (91 points).
Besides this, in the Wine Spectator Magazine November 2006 Edition, the Carlos Basso Malbec 2004 was recognized with 87 points.
